THE SCREAM

We were at Treblinka and had been told how 800000 Jews were murdered there in 11 short months. We then walked amongst the 8000 Stones, representing 8000 communities which perished.

The enormity of this horror was sinking into our beings. After a while everybody became silent and wandered their own way.

One person went into the woods and screamed--The most heart rending scream that I have ever heard. It pierced the silence and our souls. It was indescribable- we were shocked-numb.

And the Poles there carried on with their picnic.
